It has already witnessed tournaments including FIFA Club World Cup and FIFA Arab Cup. The World Cup will host 8 matches including Group Stage, Round of 16 and Quarter Finals. First match at the stadium on November 22 – Denmark vs Tunisia.
Designed with Islamic architecture and modernity in mind, the stadium is a symbol of sustainability, development and innovation.
The stadium is diamond-shaped to accommodate changes that are ahead of the curve. The main design feature is that the facade, which has a complex triangular shape in a geometric pattern, changes color according to the movement of the sun. The beauty of the stadium is all over the facade. The design is by Fia Fenwick Iribarran Architects.
After the World Cup
After the World Cup, 20,000 seats will be donated for sports facilities in underdeveloped countries. 2 schools of Qatar Foundation will start functioning at the stadium. 2 buildings will be constructed for schools and one building for administration.
Five-star rating for environmental friendliness
It is the first World Cup stadium in Qatar to receive a five-star rating by the Global Sustainability Assessment System for its design and building that adheres to environmental sustainability standards. The constructions and facilities are eco-friendly with indigenously developed cooling technology, energy efficient LED lighting systems, indigenously developed pitch, beautiful parks around for entertainment and relaxation for the spectators and trees for shade.
A lot of facilities
Inside the stadium, all the facilities, including changing rooms for players and halls for press conferences, are of world-class standards as per FIFA standards. Arrangements are made to ensure that all categories, including those with special needs, can enjoy the competition. Outside there are training sites for players, parking for over 50,000 vehicles and trams to travel across the Education City. Easy to travel including Doha Metro and Karwa Bus.
