Etisalat, the UAE’s telecom provider, said the technical glitch had been restored and “all internet services were back to normal.” “The technical teams were able to resolve the issues caused by a technical glitch that caused a partial disruption to our network,” the company said in a statement.

On Thursday evening, thousands of netizens in the UAE reported problems with internet connectivity on the Etisalat network. According to Downdetector.ae, the technical crash started around 9.30pm. Within an hour, the website reported 2,000 complaints that users could not access Internet services through Etisalat.

The majority of reported complaints were from landline internet connections (75 per cent), while 17 per cent had problems with mobile services. Eight percent reported no signal. Residents took to Twitter to voice their grievances and ask fellow users if they were having similar problems and tagged Etisalat’s official support handle for help. Etisalat has issued an official statement saying that the issue will be resolved soon.
